When we talk about migrating on-premise systems to the cloud, we need to stay grounded in reality. We already know that SAP plans to end support for ECC in 2027.
In Brazil, only about 20% of companies have made the move. If the majority delays starting their projects, we’ll see a surge in demand around the same time—but there won’t be enough qualified consultants to meet it. As a result, consulting costs and implementation timelines will rise.
It seems much more sensible to plan your migration now, under more stable conditions. At the end of this article, we’ll outline a path to help ease your efforts. But first, our migration expert, José Roberto Filho, shares a timely reflection:
“We’ve been talking about migrating to S/4HANA for at least five years. A lot of talk!
Yet every day, we come across large companies that are only now beginning to prepare for a change that is inevitable. In other words, migrate to S/4 or migrate to another ERP.
But now, after running the same SAP ECC version for 10+ years without any improvements—neglecting version updates and security—these same companies want to migrate to the latest S/4 version and include all the enhancements they skipped over the past decade to ‘get more value’ from the migration.
Suddenly, this migration has become urgent. Really?
The truth is, moving from an old version like ECC to S/4 is neither easy nor quick. It requires extensive preparation and planning—reviewing current licenses, legacy systems, thousands of custom developments, uncontrolled data volumes, and infrastructure. And that’s just to make the switch to S/4.
Let’s not forget the people—the ones who will provide the knowledge and hands-on work to make it happen. They need to learn. They need to be involved. They need to understand what will happen to their needs and daily processes.
And in the end, after several months—not days—you may start to see more value from your new system.”
Yes, it’s a challenge—but you don’t have to carry the weight alone!
